Psychological Services
Human Affairs Consultants offers an expansive range of psychological services and treatments for children, adolescents and adults. This is inclusive of but not limited to:
- Mood disorders; including Depression, Bipolar Disorder
- Anxiety disorders; including fear and/or phobias
- Grief and trauma; including PTSD, DID,
- Sexual Assault
- Relationship problems
- Personal injury and compensation
- Workplace discrimination, bullying or harassment
- Parenting concerns, and child and adolescent issues
Trauma Focus
Trauma is a the psychological wound of injury as a result of a distressing or frightening event(s). It can manifest in many ways and if left unresolved may compromise an individual’s mental and physical health long term. Trauma can also have intergenerational effects and when left untreated can cause damage to the wider community as well as the individual. However, research proves that trauma can be resolved and its negative intergenerational effects can be intercepted.

Relationship Enrichment
Relationships are a common, yet complex part of human nature. It is therefore vital that all individuals are armed with the necessary tools to knowledge their strengths and overcome their individual weaknesses. Relationship Enrichment counselling encompasses a range of criteria from marriage expectation/satisfaction and conflict resolution to idealistic distortion and personality issues (and much more). Working with a counselling psychologist on relationship enrichment will aid the individual and/or the couple by helping to teach you more about yourself, your partner and/or your relationship and to help identify the advantageous and growth areas you need to discuss in your relationship.

How to make an appointment
There are several ways for you to make an appointment and receive services from a Psychologist.
Private psychologists set their own rates based on a recommended schedule of fees guided by the Australian Psychological Society.
A private consultation is arranged by the individual with our staff. You do not need a referral from a doctor or other medical professional for a private consultation.
Medicare benefits can be accessed for a range of specified psychological services. These benefits are available for individuals with certain conditions including but not limited to:
- People with mental health disorders
- People who have a chronic medical condition and complex care needs
- Follow-up allied health services for people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
In order to be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, you will need to be referred by your General Practitioner (GP). In other instances by a psychiatrist, paediatrician or consultant physician.

Psychological Therapy Services (PTS), formerly known as ATAPS provides short-term support to individuals with mild to moderate mental health concerns.
Human Affairs Consultants’ provides services for community members who identify within any of the following categories:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People
- People with Comorbid Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD)
- Carers
- Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI)
- Young people (Aged 12-25)
- Low to moderate risk of self-harm or suicide
- People with complex needs
- Those affected by bushfire
Individuals need to be assessed and referred by a General Practitioner (or in some cases a psychiatrist) to receive this service.

If you’ve been injured at work, or on your journey to or from work, you may be eligible to receive Workers Compensation benefits under the NSW Workcover scheme or the Commonwealth Government’s ComCare scheme.
Under either scheme and with a doctor’s recommendation, you may be entitled to psychological services.
Psychologists are trained to treat workers so that they may have a durable and safe recovery, in order to help assist them in the process of returning to work.
Before arranging a Workcover appointment with a psychologist ensure you have been assessed and referred by a General Practitioner (GP).
